After purchasing my white leather Nike sneakers, I couldn’t resist painting my new “canvas. Using my iPad Pro, I took pictures of the shoes so I could sketch and try out ideas. After all, it was my first time painting shoes. I imported and edited the photos using ProCreate. A wonderful program to have a little fun experimenting with.
After several sketches, I still wasn’t quite decided. I grabbed my Moleskine Sketchbook and there I saw a slightly older sketch of a brush that would fit perfectly. Perfect for on my shoes, after all, I am creatively inclined. It also makes sense that on the back of my shoes is Nike Create.
I first penciled the drawing onto the shoe so I could still erase and fix any mistakes. I then traced these pencil drawings over with Molotow markers. I have several colors and different sizes lying around, so that helped.
Finally, I sprayed them with a Belton spray of gloss lacquer. However, the lacquer was not such a success because the gloss lacquer becomes too hard. As a result, some points in the shoe now show cracks. A better choice is Krylon Matte Finish. Good for your leather and the lacquer is matte and therefore more flexible. Wise lesson for the next pair of shoes.
Despite the small breaks in the design, I still enjoy wearing them. In the video you can see the overall result of the shoes.
